Privacy Policy
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking across other apps or websites, and we never sell your data.
- Most of what Mapside knows stays on your phone. Without an account, nothing about you is stored on our servers.
- With an account, your saved places, settings, explored streets and the location points used to award XP are stored with your account, so they follow you to a new phone.
- Health data is read only and never used for advertising. It stays on your phone, unless you turn on Workout XP, which sends workout routes to award XP.
- You can delete single items, everything on your phone, or your whole account at any time.
Who we are
Mapside is made by an independent developer (“we”, “us”), who is the controller of the personal data described here. The developer's name is shown as the seller on the App Store and Google Play listings.
For anything about privacy, write to support@mapside.eu. We answer every request within 30 days.
What Mapside collects
Location
Mapside asks for your location while you use the app. It centres the map, gives turn-by-turn directions and clears the fog on the streets you cover. Directions use precise location, which the app asks for when you start a trip.
Location keeps running in the background only while you navigate. On iPhone the location indicator shows in the status bar. On Android a “Navigating” notification stays visible. Mapside never asks for “Always” location.
Explored streets, missions and progress
- Explored areas. The parts of the map you have uncovered, stored as small squares of about 38 metres.
- Missions. Each trip you record: the route you took, start and destination names, distance, speed, climb and time. Missions stay on your phone and are left out of device backups.
- Progress. Your level, XP, streaks and achievements.
If you are signed in, Mapside sends location points to our server while the app is in use: coordinates, time, accuracy, speed and whether the location is simulated. The server uses them to confirm the streets and places you visited and to award XP fairly. It also keeps your time zone and the place of your first location point.
Places and searches
- Home, Work and favourite places you save.
- Your last 24 destinations, shown as Recents.
- Details of places you open, kept on your phone for up to 30 days so they load faster.
- What you type into search, which is sent to the search services listed below to find results.
Your account
An account is optional. You can sign in with Apple or Google. We then receive an account identifier, your email address (Apple can give us a private relay address instead), your name and, with Google, a link to your profile picture. Your sign-in session is kept in the iPhone Keychain or the Android Keystore.
Purchases
Mapside Pro is sold through the App Store and Google Play, which handle payment. We never see your card or bank details. Our purchase partner Adapty receives your purchases, your account identifier if you are signed in, and basic device and app information, so Pro unlocks on all your devices and purchases can be restored.
Settings, notifications and device information
- Your settings, such as units, voice, map labels, speed alerts and route preferences.
- Reminders for streaks, weekly recaps, rewards and transit alerts. These are created on your phone. Mapside does not use push notification services.
- Every online service sees your IP address when the app connects to it. Requests to open map services name the app so their operators can contact us.
What Mapside does not collect
Contacts, photos, camera, microphone, your advertising identifier, analytics, crash reports and browsing activity. Voice guidance uses recordings built into the app, so nothing you say or hear is sent anywhere.
Health and workouts
If you allow it, Mapside reads workouts from Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android. Mapside only reads. It never writes to or changes your health data.
- What it reads. Outdoor workouts and their routes, heart rate, active and resting energy, steps, running and cycling power, cadence, cardio fitness (VO₂ max), workout effort and elevation. On iPhone it also reads your date of birth to set your heart-rate zones.
- Why. To clear the fog along routes you walked, ran or rode, and to show your workouts in Missions with their charts.
- Where it stays. Imported workouts are kept on your phone, outside device backups. Heart rate and other health figures are never uploaded.
- Workout XP, if you turn it on. Workouts recorded after you created your Mapside account can earn XP. For each of those, its route points, its type (such as a run or a ride) and its start and end times are sent to our server to award XP for the streets you covered. Older workouts only clear the map on your phone and are never uploaded. Heart rate and other health figures never leave your phone. The option is off until you switch it on.
Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with anyone else. It is not stored in iCloud or Google Drive by Mapside. You can remove imported workouts with “Delete all imported workout data” in the workout library, and stop access at any time in the Health app on iPhone or Health Connect on Android.

- Your own cloud backup. On iPhone, your explored areas are saved in your private iCloud database. On Android, they are saved in a hidden app folder in your Google Drive. Only you can access these copies. We cannot read them.
- Our servers, when you are signed in. Your account, saved places, settings, explored areas, progress and the location points used for XP. Our servers are run by our hosting provider Supabase.

Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we hold about you and give you a copy, in a format you can take elsewhere;
- correct data that is wrong;
- delete your data or your account;
- stop or limit a use of your data, or object to one;

US state privacy rights. Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws have the rights above to know, delete and correct their data. We do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, and we do not use sensitive data to infer things about you. We will never treat you differently for using your rights.
Choices in the app and on your phone. Turn location, Health, Health Connect and notifications on or off in your phone's settings. Turn off live traffic in Mapside's settings to stop sending routes to Google. Use Mapside without an account to keep everything on your phone.
Deleting your data
- Single items. Delete a mission from its page, clear Recents, remove saved places, or delete all imported workouts from the workout library.
- Everything on your phone. Delete the app.
- Your cloud copies. On iPhone, open Settings, your name, iCloud, Manage Account Storage, Mapside. On Android, open Google Drive, Settings, Manage apps, Mapside, Delete hidden app data.
- Your account and everything on our servers. In Mapside, open Your trail and tap Delete account. You can also reach it from Settings, Data & privacy. Without the app, see Delete your account.
Children
Mapside is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. In some countries the age for agreeing to data use without a parent is higher, up to 16. If you think a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
Security and international transfers
All connections to our servers and partners are encrypted. Your sign-in session is kept in your phone's secure storage, and access to our servers is limited to what each part of the app needs.
Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. When data leaves the EU or UK, it is protected by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
This website
mapside.eu uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers. Fonts and maps are served from this site, so your visit is not shared with other companies. Your browser remembers your light or dark choice and your map theme on your own device. Our web host keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security, and deletes them after a short period.
Changes and contact
When we change this policy, we update this page and its effective date. If a change matters for how your data is used, we tell you in the app before it applies.
